George Bledsoe, LOESS HILLS SAWMILL SERVICE

After attending many shows in the Midwest, I am so pleased to be a part of the Kansas City Elegance in Wood Show and Sale.

I have been in the sawmill business since 2004. I started in the carving wood business by cutting butternut logs for Marty Dolphens that we picked up from John Krantz. After cutting those logs, I started making numerous trips to northern Minnesota for winter cut basswood and Wisconsin for butternut.  My current sawmill is equipped with a Norwood HD 36 hydraulic mill. It has features that make loading and turning logs much easier than my old manual mill. After milling, I stack the wood and allow it to air dry before being loaded into a solar kiln for finishing.

I will bring thicker pieces of cherry and walnut for wood turners.  I also provide a variety of other hardwoods including oak, catalpa, and some beautiful ambrosia maple from Michigan.

I make display bases in walnut, cherry, butternut, oak, and maple.   I have made custom bases for several nationally known carvers and will be happy to make them for you.

If you are looking for a particular type of wood, a certain size or you need a custom display base, please email at loesshillssawmill@hotmail.com or call 712-310-4154.  I am looking forward to making new friends and helping you with your material needs.

Van Kelly’s Carvings.

I started carving when I was 16 years old in High School shop class.  I bought my first tools at Silver Dollar City in 1980 and asked my teacher if I could carve as my project for his class.   I continued to pursue my passion over the years and invested my time in attending a variety of carving classes.  I am appreciative of the help I have received from my instructors who include Mike Shipley, Harold Enlow, John Engler and Steve Brown.  In 2005 I started my own business of designing and selling rough-outs.  I now have over 100 various rough-outs for sale and I am available to give instruction on carving the rough-outs I sell.   Please visit my web page www.vankellyscarving.com.   You are welcome to order on line or call me direct.  My rough-outs are also marketed at Silver Dollar City and Peter Engler’s Designs.

I am pleased to be a vendor in the 2018 KC Elegance in Wood Show and Sale and look forward to making new friends.   See ya at the show!
