On behalf of the KC Woodcarvers Club, now a Special Interest Group of the Kansas City Woodworkers Guild, we want to express our appreciation for your interest and participation in the 2017 KC Elegance in Wood Show and Sales Show.
In response to the comments of our exhibitors and vendors, we are making an effort to streamline our show and increase our professionalism. Please read carefully all show related documents as we continue to make major changes in our format. On Saturday, during the show, our Show Chairman and staff will personally interview each exhibitor for comments, concerns, and suggestions regarding the show.
All items must be preregistered for competition with the Exhibitor Application (see below). No items will be registered at the show. There is no limit to the number of entries each exhibitor may submit. There is a $2.00 registration fee (payable with Exhibitor’s Application) for each entry.
Judging will be done privately, Friday evening by two judges. At 4:00 p.m. Friday, carvers will be asked to bring their preregistered carvings to the judging area. The entries will be received and arranged by the staff. Once the judging area is set-up, the staff will call in the judges. Judges will preview all entries and may move an entry to a more appropriate group or category, if necessary.
Each entry will be evaluated, individually, by the judges and given a score of 1-5 (5 being best) in four criteria (Originality, Design, Execution, and Finish). The score is intended to encourage growth in future work by providing the carver with an opinion on areas of strength and weakness of their work. The evaluative score will be taken into account in the judging process, but it will not be the sole determinant. In other words, just because a carving receives a perfect score does not guarantee an award will be given when the work is compared with the work of other entries.

Each Category will have a first and second place award. Other awards will be given for Best of Group, Best of Show, and Second Best of Show. Best of Group Winners will receive $25.00. “Second Best of Show” $200 and “Best of Show” $300.
A Grand Champion will be selected from the Grand Champion carvers. Exhibitors will pick up their carving entries on Saturday before 10:00 a.m. to be displayed on their table. The Grand Champion will receive $350 with embroidered vest.
At 11:00 a.m., Saturday, Best of Group, Best of Show, and Second Best of Show winners will be recognized and awarded cash prizes. If there is a Grand Champion Winner, they will receive a cash award and vest.
- The price per table/space is $50.00. One price for all our Exhibitors and Vendors! Applications are accepted on a first come, first serve basis. Tables and spaces are limited – apply early! Application dead line is March 1, 2017. Late application and judging registrations will NOT be accepted.
- All entries for competition and evaluation must be PREREGISTERED and included with the Exhibitor Application and payment. Note: Registration of carvings at the show is eliminated.
- General Admission Fee: $5.00 per person for both days (under 12 free when accompanied with paid adult). Each paid admission will include two free raffle tickets. Raffles will be conducted every hour on the hour for the duration of the show. Quality raffle items include tools, wood, books, supplies, gift certificates, etc. The ticket holder must be present to win.
- Entries from Instructors or previous “Best of Show” winners will compete for Grand Champion recognition and will not be eligible for Best of Show or Second Best of Show. This will allow the best to compete with the best and allow newer carvers the possibility of winning “Best of Show.”
