On behalf of the KC Woodcarvers Club, now a Special Interest Group of the Kansas City Woodworkers Guild, we want to express our appreciation for your interest and participation in the 2018 KC Elegance in Wood Show and Sale. We look forward to seeing your exhibits in March.
In response to the comments of our exhibitors and vendors, we are making an effort to streamline our show and increase our professionalism. Please read carefully all show related documents as we continue to make major changes in our format. On Saturday, during the show, our Show Chairman and staff will personally interview each exhibitor for comments, concerns, and suggestions regarding the show.
All carvings must be preregistered for competition with the Exhibitor Application (see below). No items will be registered at the show. There is no limit to the number of entries each exhibitor may submit. There is a $2.00 registration fee (payable with Exhibitor’s Application) for each entry.
Judging will be done privately, Friday evening by two judges. At 3:30 p.m. Friday, carvers will be asked to bring their preregistered carvings to the judging area. The entries will be received and arranged by the staff. Once the competition entries are in the judging area, the staff will call in the judges. Judges will preview all entries and may move entries and/or combine groups and categories where deemed necessary.
Each entry will be evaluated, individually, by the judges and given a score of 1-5 (5 being the best) in four criteria: Originality, Design, Execution, and Finish. The score is intended to encourage growth in future work by providing the carver with an opinion on areas of strength and weakness in their work. The evaluative score will be taken into account in the judging process, but it will not be the sole determinant. In other words, just because a carving receives a perfect score does not guarantee an award will be given when the work is compared with the work of others.
Each Category will yield one Best of Category. Each Group will yield a Best of Group and 2nd Best of Group. Best of Show and 2nd Best of Show will be selected from the Best of Groups. A Grand Champion will be selected from the Grand Champion entries.
Exhibitors may pick up their carvings entries on Saturday before 10:00 a.m. to be displayed on their table. At 11:00 a.m., Saturday, winners will be announced, recognized and awarded cash prizes and/or certificates.
- General Admission Fee: $5.00 per person for both days (under 12 free when accompanied with paid adult). Each paid admission will receive one free raffle ticket. Additional raffle tickets may be purchased at 6 tickets for $5.00. Starting at 11 am raffles will be conducted, both days, every hour on the hour for the duration of the show. Quality raffle items include tools, wood, books, supplies, gift certificates, etc. Ticket holders must write their phone number on back of raffle ticket. The winning ticket holder will be contacted for prize pick-up. Prizes must be picked up before 5pm Saturday, March 17, 2018. Prizes will not be mailed!
- We added two new groups:
I. Turnings with three new categories: 110 Utility, 202 Segmented, and 303 Art. The winner of Best of Group I., will receive $50.
K. Rough-out, Duplicated, Instructor Assisted. The winner of Best of Group K. will receive $50
